This article describes how to flush the System Restore in Microsoft Windows XP.

Warning: When you flush the Windows System Restore, all existing restore points are removed, and you are no longer able to track or undo changes to your computer.
Applies To:

Windows XP Home and Professional.

Requirements:

You will need to be logged into an account with administrative privledges to perform this procedure.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.
  3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System. This will open a system properties box.
  4. In the System Properties box, click the tab titled System Restore.
  5. Check the box next to Turn off System Restore and click Apply. Depending on the amount of System Restore data, it may take several minutes for the System Restore to clear.
  6. Now, uncheck the box next to Turn off System Restore.
  7. Your System Restore has now been cleaned out and reenabled. Click OK to exit.
